Despite a strong film background, Rani never thought that she can act. After doing a short cameo appearance for the first time in her father's Bengali film 'Biyer Phool' (1992), Mukerji made her acting debut five years later, as a protagonist in 'Raja Ki Aayegi Baraat' in 1997. She received Special Jury recognition at the Star Screen Awards.
She had a successful year in 1998 withVikram Bhatt's Gulam', opposite Aamir Khan and the song "Aati Kya Khandala" is hummed by her fans. Later she did Karan Johar’s Directorial Debut “Kuch Kuch Hota hain” with Shahrukh Khan and Kajol and she proved she meant to stay here in Bollywood. After this there was no looking back for her. She essayed a brief role in Kamal Hassan’s 'Hey Ram' as Hassan's first wife, Aparna Ram. The controversial film, based on Mahatma Gandhi's assassination was a critical success and was chosen as India's official entry to Oscars that year.
For two years, Rani did a few films, but not good enough to be recognized. But in 2002, she did 'Sathiya for which she won a Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress, and among several other nominations, received her first Best Actress nomination at the Filmfare. Her next successful film was 'Chalte Chalte opposite Shahrukh Khan and then 'Veer Zaara'. Her best performances till date though are in ' Black", 'Bunty or Babli and 'Paheli'.
Last year, Rani starred in two films that is 'Talash' and Aaiyya"'. Though the former was critically acclaimed, the last one didn't do well at the box-office.
Rani always maintained a dignified silence on her relationship with Aditya Chopra. Recently came into limelight again when she was seen wearing a ring in her finger, as people guessed she is engaged with Mr.Chopra. What is real that only Rani can tell us!
Well, be it her films, engagements or social interaction, Rani makes sure to achieve the best.
