Aamir Khan completes 25 years in the Hindi film industry.
From giving Bollywood its first chocolate-boy hero in Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak to taking Indian cinema worldwide with Lagaan, to delivering the biggest hit of all-time in 3 Idiots to even making a success out of his exceptional directorial-debut Taare Zameen Par, Aamir Khan’s career is filled with a number of symbolic moments. And it's not just acting! Production, direction, International magazine covers, singing, physical makeovers, game-changing marketing ideas...Aamir is ready for all. As he completes his silver jubilee, Aamir takes a break from the shooting of Dhoom 3 and speaks to the media to share his thoughts.
My family, Reena Ji, Kiran Ji and their families as well have all been instrumental in helping me achieve whatever I have. It is very difficult for an actor’s family to adjust with the busy lives we lead. Also the media always gives enough reasons for them to stress (laughs).
Firstly Nasir Saab (my uncle and the producer of QSQT), for having the faith in me for Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak. Then I would like to thank my writers, technicians, and all colleagues for enhancing the work I have done so far. And above all my audience who have tolerated me for so long.
I am fortunate that I am competing 25 years at a time when Indian cinema is celebrating its 100 years. I wish I had planned a little bit in advance as I would have loved to make a film for Bollywood’s centenary.
My dream is to work with Dilip Kumar as I think he is one of the greatest, finest and most influential actors in world cinema. Subconsciously, even I have been inspired by him.
Post QSQT when a few of my films failed, I took a decision to only do films whose stories appealed to me. I decided I would not chase big money or big banners and only follow my conviction. That change of approach is what has seen me through all these years. Back then it was considered suicidal, but in the long run it worked for me.
On Being An Influencer:
Power is of any good only if you use it. So if I am in a position where what I say can make a difference to the society, it is my duty to use it to spread a positive message and enable a change in whatever way I can.
Managing Power Equations:
I am extremely involved in whatever I do and it consumes me completely. So sometimes if i am disturbed I just go into a self-created shell and withdraw myself. But I have learnt that in all relationships; be it personal or professional you need to give Security, Trust, Dignity and Love. So like say, even when it comes to the media, regardless of what is published about me, I will always give love, dignity and the trust and security that I am there.
I do not regret any film of mine. I am not saying I haven’t made wrong choices, but good or bad every film of mine has contributed in my journey.
The entire unit of QSQT will watch the film together and later we will move to Mansoor’s (Khan) place to relive old memories. They say an actor's peak lasts for five years...When we used to paste posters of QSQT across the city, I really never thought I would come so far.
Aamir Khan is not just a superstar or a celebrity, he is man with multiple talents an actor who is not timid of experiments, a producer who give the thought of new ideas and thinks beyond bollywood, a strategist who looks for innovations to promote his movies, an icon and an inspiration..Congratulations of completing 25 years on silver screen.. Thanks to Mr. perfectionist for giving all the moments of 'Dhoom' as your 'Talaash' for cinematic creativity and excellence continues.
