Happy birthday to Sonam Kapoor- the fashionista of Bollywood

She is known for her ultra- modern dressing style and fashion sense. The style diva Sonam Kapoor celebrates her 29th birthday today. The ‘Masakali’ girl is the one of the very few actresses in Bollywood who’s fashion sense is simply mind- blowing. She defines high- end fashion in an extraordinary way.

With her Bollywood debut with childhood ‘friend’ Ranbir Kapoor in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Saawariya in 2004 Sonam has also played the main lead in movies like Delhi 6, Aisha and I Hate Luv Stories. Not many of her movies worked out well at the box office in the start. But her latest movies, Raanjhana and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag were major box office successes bringing her back among the top league. Here is a comprehensive how-to guide on Sonam Kapoor’s makeup mantras, and hair styling tips.

Let your body decide
Dress for your body, always. I'm pear-shaped, so you'll always find me wearing a lot of '50s and '60s shapes like nipped waists, fuller skirts and slimmer shift dresses. If you're dressing just to impress without considering your body type and personality, it could backfire.

Play with colour
I absolutely adore colour blocks, both contrasting and complementary. Start with bright, solid-coloured tops with jeans or incorporate small pops of colours via a bright lip or nail colour. Postbox red and tangerine are hot this season.

Dewy Fresh Make-Up
While I like to go ultra-glam for special occasions, most days I prefer neutral tones and dewy fresh make-up. For the day, I'd suggest using a brown eyeliner, some nice tawny eyeshadow and a slick of mascara and lip gloss. Carry on the neutral tones into the night, but now you can add some mood with black eyeliner or kohl and smudgy eyeshadow.

Old Hollywood Glamour
I don't have to tell you that old Hollywood glamour is a weakness of mine. Charcoal eyeshadows, pillar-box red lips, flawless skin, strong eyebrows...and I'm sold.

Hair Dos'
Fresh and healthy hair is most stunning. I love dramatic, loose or structured waves a la old-school glamour. Another favourite of mine is different updos-messy, braided or sculpted versions-I love them all.

Wear classics with a twist
Icons like Audrey Hepburn stuck to classics and formflattering silhouettes, I do the same. Experiment with hair, make-up and accessories like fierce shoes, an eye-grabbing choker or sculptural bangles.

Metallic Madness
Another trend that's returned is metallic make-up-and I love it! Gold greens, greys, purples and berry hues with a metallic finish will really play up your eyes, but you've got to keep the rest of your face low-key. Just gloss or nude pink for your lips, and you're good to go.
