Raising the curtain on the season’s most awaited fashion showcase, couturier Manish Malhotra presented his Gloss inspired Indian Cocktail collection, at the finale of Lakmé Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2014. It was indeed a glossy affair as the designer showcased a breath-taking collection inspired by Lakme’s latest beauty statement. Staged in exuberant couture-ensemble, this new collection was a glamorous twist to bridal couture in India, depicting Manish’s signature style.
Setting the atmosphere of drama on the stage was the luxurious bridal suite with props by the Great Eastern Furniture Company; where models depicted a tableau of a bride, as she sits in front of her dressing table, dressing for a wedding party. Varun Dhawan was a surprise – as he opened the show to thunderous applause. The highlight of the show was Kareena Kapoor Khan, the showstopper and face of Lakmé Absolute, as she presented a glamorous and glossy look. Kareena’s stunning appearance on the ramp was a vision of beauty as she glided down the ramp in a glittering silver front open low back kurta over a shaded shimmering diaphanous panelled lehenga and a sensational grey tulle cape appliquéd with rose motifs and lace.
Inspired from Indian tradition, yet speaking a language relevant to the new age bride, Manish reinvented the lehenga as flowing skirts, while adding an extra edge to the festive season with glamorized racer backs. The long kalidars gets a makeover this season and another highlight of the collection is Manish Malhotra’s version of the Gown Sari - the easy silhouette adding to the romance of the ensemble. Bringing in a final touch to these avant-garde ensembles was jewellery by Anmol Jewelers.
From the colour palette to the embroidery, fabric and silhouette, the contemporary expression of style was seen in every detail. The collection was dominated by rich festive shades of wine and burgundy, in specially treated textured silks, velvets and chiffons that added the ultra-feminine touch. In line with the international trend of gloss, gleam and shine, the contemporary mirror work and textured shimmer in the collection didn’t just dazzle, it reflected the radiance of a woman on the brink of a dream come true.
The evening belonged to the gloss look as the show opened to reveal a collection that was the ultimate in gloss and high shine. Featuring a burgundy lehenga with a long luxurious trial, the presentation was followed by gorgeous creations in ombré with mirror work blouse, a bridal gown in shades of pink and grey net long lace kurta with rose embellishments and a sequinned blouse that glittered under the ramp lights with a magnificent skirt.
Stunning entries were the keyhole neck choli with seductive net extensions, the gorgeous sari-gowns and the lehenga-gowns with interesting plunge neckline. Sensuous kurtas skimmed the floor but had tantalising side slits that revealed pants or churidars. The one-shoulder poncho teamed with velvet muted print lehenga, the deep red skirt with horizontal velvet stripes and the fully embroidered gown with shimmering rose embellishments were gloss and glitter personified.
Men’s bridal wear had sherwanis, jackets, kurtas and bundgalas in rich silks in matching colours with horizontal velvet stripes.
Complementing the outfits was Lakmé’s new Absolute Gloss makeup range that took Manish’s glossy ensembles to the next level of glamour. The finale saw models strutting down the runway, their faces radiant with the sheen of glossy skin and their looks finished with high-shine lipcolors, lacquered glossy nails and jewel-toned eyes. Eyes went glossy with the newly launched Gel Addict Eyeliners in jewel tones of wine and sapphire blue. In collaboration with Manish, the Lakmé makeup expert Daniel Bauer crafted his brilliance backstage on each model with the newest picks from the beauty block - Gloss Addict Lip Colour, Gloss Stylist and the Gel Stylist Nail Color, each shade casting a celebratory charm.
With loud applauds and cheered smiles, the show brought down the curtains to another immensely successful season of Lakmé Fashion Week.
