'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story' trailer: A journey from a Ticket Collector to World Class Cricketer

Therefore, the hugely awaited trailer of MS Dhoni’s biopic finally dropped and Sushant looks very convincing in playing Dhoni’s character. Well, there was always apprehension about the film, considering the man they are making the film on is still captaining the Indian cricket team! However, the trailer seems to put those doubts at rest, at least partly.

Biopics are always tricky because portraying a person who actually exists in flesh and blood can go wrong horribly, like we saw in Azhar but it might work too like Farhan Akhtar’s portrayal of Milkha Singh. However, it’s even more trickier when you have to portray someone who is still very fresh in memory, but Sushant manages to nail Dhoni’s mannerisms. He talks like Dhoni or when he is playing his signature helicopter shot. Even Sushant became a look alike of MSD with that god-awful long hairstyle which became extremely popular.

Add to the fact that Sushant always looks comfortable playing cricket on the big screen (Kai Po Che) and it’s hard to think of anyone else in the industry who could’ve pulled this off.

The trailer takes us through all the big moments in MSD’s life, starting from Dhoni’s school days in Ranchi and culminating in what has to be MSD’s biggest career high - the 2011 World Cup.

A big chunk of the film, at least from the looks of the trailer, seems focus on Dhoni’s time as a ticket collector at Karagpur Station from 2001-2003.

A well-paid TT with job security for life is a far easier choice than chasing dreams to be a cricketer. This dilemma is beautifully played with Anupam Kher’s as Dhoni's father who wants his son to complete his study and get a stable job, and the way the family celebrates Dhoni’s job. There are a couple of moments in the trailer devoted to Dhoni’s romance with his childhood sweetheart and wife Sakshi.

However with all the good points in the trailer, it still remains to be seen whether the acting and the storyline is up to the mark.

Directed by Neeraj Pandey and produced by Fox Star Studios and Inspired Entertainment, the film is slated for release on September 30.
